Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a form of light therapy that utilizes lasers, LEDs, and other non-ionizing forms of light sources. As principal or adjunctive therapy the PBM results in beneficial therapeutic outcomes such as control of pain or inflammation, immunomodulation, and promotion of wound healing. Then, one of the goals of PBMT is the tissue repair or regeneration. In this context, this lecture will show the experience of our research group showing since our initial in vitro studies using cells in culture. We will show the basis for understanding the effects of such therapy, showing the evolution of these studies in animal studies, in clinical trials until the recent studies using stem cells from dentoalveolar origin. Some clinical applications will be also presented as well.
